Idea: How to Add Magic to Your Marketing in 2015
“People are 100 times more interested in themselves and their wants and problems than they are in you.” That quote may sound familiar if you’ve ever read Dale Carnegie’s 1936 classic self-help book, How to Win Friends and Influence People.
We hope also that it sounds familiar to anyone who regularly reads our Idea Email. It’s a central theme of what we advocate and what we believe marketing should be.
We sometimes wince when we see others promote a broad array of technology-enabled tools and approaches under the banner of “content marketing” that turns out to be little more than gimmicky attempts to influence Google search results, generate leads, or collect social media likes or shares.
We believe the magic of content marketing is found in Dale Carnegie’s quote.
We have entered a new era where marketing is no longer limited by time and (paid media) space.
In this new era, great marketing won’t be that which generates the most hype, collects the most likes, accumulates the most shares or is viewed by the most eyeballs.
In this new era, great marketing will be that which recognizes that customers care 100 times more about how a product makes them great than how great a product is.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Magical New Year.
We’ll see you again on January 8.
