Taylor Zimmermann, project manager at Hammock, is a big part of the management team for H2U’s monthly newsletters, is in charge of magazine ad tracking and approval, and is responsible for social media marketing for Hammock. (Though not an official part of her job description, she’s the primary reason CEO Rex Hammock gets his assigned writing in on time.) Taylor cheers for the Crimson Tide, knows all of New Orleans’ nooks and crannies, loves traveling and (shhhhh!) is a hula-hooping champ.
Where are you from originally and where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in New Orleans. I grew up in a part of New Orleans called Metairie.
Where did you go to college and what kind of degree did you get?
I went to the University of Alabama and graduated with a marketing degree with a concentration in global business.
What did you do before coming to Hammock?
Hammock was my first “real job” post graduation but before I made it to Nashville, I moved back home for a few months for an internship. My interest in global business and my marketing degree landed me an internship with a view of the Mississippi River in the marketing department at the Port of New Orleans.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up and/or get in the office each morning?
I always start the day with a cup a coffee. I usually grab a granola bar and a home brewed cup of coffee for the ride to work. On a good day, I’ll stop at a local coffee shop for coffee and a cookie. Once in the office, I read emails and sort them into the various organized (thanks to Marci and Natalie) Google Docs I use to manage my projects. I cannot let an unread email sit in my inbox for long. I also keep a running to do list that I go over each morning.
What was your most memorable day at Hammock?
There have been many memorable days at Hammock but the day that sticks out is moving from the basement to the current Hammock offices. It was exciting to finally make the move after watching the months of progress and Julia’s hard work.
If you could switch places with any other Hammock employee for one day, who would it be and why?
I would like to switch places with Jamie. Like Jamie, I like to travel and would like to go on one of her travel adventures!
If you were to win the lottery this week, what is the first purchase you would make?
I would plan a trip! Deciding where to go would be the hard part. I love to visit to new places I have not been and experience the culture of different countries.
What’s your favorite travel destination?
Being indecisive doesn’t help, but I have never been able to answer the question “beach or mountains?” I grew up going to Highlands, North Carolina, with my family and still love getting away to the mountains. I also love being on the beach or the boat in Perdido, Florida.
How do you spend those precious few hours when you’re not in the office?
When I am not in the office, I like to spend my time outside. In the warmer months I usually spend the afternoon on a walk or sitting on the patio. I also prefer to eat lunch and dinner outside when the weather is nice.
What’s one thing your coworkers probably don’t know about you?
I think I let this slide recently to some coworkers but I can hula-hoop pretty well. I’m scared by saying this that Marci will now challenge me to a hula-hoop competition.
